Breast Augmentation Revision in Newport Beach

Firm implants, a shift in position, rupture, or a size preference that has changed are common reasons patients look into revision after augmentation. Replacing the implant alone is not always enough. At a Newport Beach consultation, Tim Sayed MD goes over your prior surgery, examines the breasts, and walks through exchange, pocket repair, lift, removal, or monitoring. He evaluates implants placed elsewhere and implants he placed himself. Think about follow-up when you pick an office. A Newport Beach consult means return visits at 3991 MacArthur Boulevard, Suite 320, Newport Beach, CA 92660. Surgery is performed only in accredited operating rooms separate from both consultation offices, not at the MacArthur Boulevard office.

Cost

Breast revision cost for Newport Beach patients

The current practice range for breast augmentation revision is $8,000–$15,000. Included are the surgeon’s fee, anesthesia, facility fees, and implants. Newport Beach and La Jolla consultations use that same band.

Request a written quote matched to your proposed surgery. Ask which procedures, tests, and postoperative visits are included in the quote and which items could add cost. Insurance coverage depends on your policy, diagnosis, and authorization process; verify that with the insurer before the operation date.

What to ask about pricing

Ask which planned procedures are included in the written quote.

Ask which tests and follow-up services the quote covers.

Consultation

What to bring to your Newport Beach consultation

Gather the implant card, older operative notes, and imaging reports if you have them. List when symptoms or contour changes began and what you want differently. Implant selection can wait until after the exam.

What to ask

Plan to ask which issue should be treated, whether pocket work is needed, and whether observation or explant without replacement is an alternative. Review incision plans, possible new scars, and who will help you after surgery. Timing of an operation can be affected by pregnancy, breastfeeding, major weight change, or nicotine use.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight change, or nicotine use may affect whether and when surgery is appropriate.

What revision may involve

Exchange alone can work when skin tone and the existing pocket already hold the implant securely. A pocket that has stretched may need capsulorrhaphy (internal sutures) or a plane change above or below the muscle. When scar tissue tightens around an implant — capsular contracture — release or removal of that capsule may be indicated. Both contracture and displacement can recur.

Lift, fat grafting, or removal

A lift becomes relevant if the skin envelope is loose or nipple position has drifted; expect added incisions and permanent scars. Fat transfer can improve soft-tissue cover or contour, with the trade-offs that some fat is reabsorbed, extra sessions may be required, and fat necrosis can occur. Permanent removal without a new implant remains available. No method freezes tissue in place forever or guarantees you will never need another procedure.

No approach can stop future tissue changes or guarantee that another operation will not be needed.

Support materials

Surgical mesh or acellular dermal matrix is considered only in selected cases, never as a blanket step. The FDA has not cleared or approved surgical mesh for use with breast implants or in breast reconstruction. Any proposed support material should be weighed for benefit and risk before you agree.

Pathology and BIA-ALCL

Pathology review of capsule tissue and targeted BIA-ALCL testing are case-by-case decisions. Ask what would be examined after removal and whether your symptoms call for specific tests. Routine capsule histology is not a substitute for the diagnostic fluid or tissue evaluation used when BIA-ALCL is a concern. Those findings can alter the operative plan.

Plan the operation and return visits separately

Consultations and postoperative checks use the Newport Beach address. The operation itself uses a different, accredited operating room, and where you recover overnight may be somewhere else entirely. Get the facility address and arrival instructions before you arrange a ride; MacArthur Boulevard is not the surgery destination.

Tell the team where you expect to recover and ask when you need to be back in Newport Beach for exams. If coming back here would be hard, settle the office choice before the consultation instead of assuming follow-ups can switch to San Diego later. Build return-visit timing into any travel plans.

Safety

Implant safety and surgical risks

Breast implants carry an FDA-required boxed warning and patient decision checklist in their labeling. They are not permanent devices; complication rates climb over time, and additional surgery may become necessary. Review the manufacturer checklist and labeling with your surgeon before replacement. You must have the chance to initial and sign it, and the implanting physician must sign as well. Nothing on this page replaces that conversation.

For silicone implants without symptoms, FDA recommendations start ultrasound or MRI at five to six years after placement and repeat every two to three years. Earlier imaging is appropriate if symptoms appear. Ten- and fifteen-year “automatic replacement” deadlines are not FDA rules.

BIA-ALCL — a cancer of the immune system — is linked more often to textured implants. Persistent swelling, a new mass, or implant-related pain needs evaluation before a cosmetic exchange is scheduled. Without symptoms, the FDA does not advise removing implants only for BIA-ALCL worry. Capsule-related cancers other than BIA-ALCL, including squamous cell carcinoma, have also been reported.

Systemic complaints sometimes grouped as breast implant illness (BII) — fatigue, brain fog, joint pain, and similar — have an unclear cause and uncertain individual risk. Discuss alternative explanations plus the realistic benefits and limits of removal; symptom relief cannot be guaranteed.

Risks

Revision risks

Possible revision complications include anesthesia complications, bleeding, infection, fluid collection (seroma), delayed healing, chronic pain, numbness or hypersensitivity, poor scars, asymmetry, blood clots, and further surgery. Prior implant problems can return. Medical history and past operations change your risk. Seek urgent care for chest pain or shortness of breath.

Recovery

Recovery and returning to the Newport Beach office

Returning to desk work after about a week is common; it is not universal. Pocket repair, a lift, or fat grafting may push recovery longer. Your surgeon’s instructions outrank any printed timeline.

Transportation

Arrange an adult driver from the operating facility and help at home early on. Clarify medications, wound care, drains if present, garments, sleep position, and lifting rules. Take only the short walks you are told to take. Do not drive while taking sedating medication, or until you can control the vehicle and your surgeon clears you.

Early care

Exercise and swimming wait for individual clearance. Swelling, shape, and scars often evolve for months; some patients need six to twelve months to feel settled. Report escalating pain, redness, marked asymmetry, or swelling without delay.

Driving

Do not drive while taking sedating medication or until you can safely steer, brake, and react and your surgeon has cleared you.

Activity

Exercise and swimming require individual clearance. Breast shape, swelling, and scars may continue to change for months; some patients need six to twelve months to feel settled.

Follow-ups

Postoperative visits return to the same MacArthur Boulevard office as your Newport Beach consultation. Ask for the schedule of those exams and how to reach the team outside listed hours. Those hours are not emergency coverage.

Questions

Breast augmentation revision in Newport Beach: common questions

Do breast implants have to be redone?

Replacement is not scheduled by age alone. Implants are not lifetime devices, but getting older does not by itself mean you need surgery. Rupture, contracture, malposition, symptoms, imaging, and your goals determine whether to operate.

How soon after a breast augmentation can I get a revision?

Cosmetic revisions are often delayed until swelling has calmed and breast position has stabilized. That interval is individual — not a promised six-month rule. Possible rupture, infection, or other significant problems should be checked promptly.

How much does breast revision cost for Newport Beach patients?

The practice quotes $8,000–$15,000 for revision, covering the surgeon’s fee, anesthesia, facility fees, and implants. Ask for a written quote for your proposed procedures and which fees sit outside that quote. Both offices use this practice-wide range. Insurance is policy-specific.

Will I need a breast lift with my revision?

Loose skin or a lowered nipple can make a lift useful. When the soft tissue and pocket already support the implant, exchange without a lift can be appropriate. Lifts add scars that are permanent; your exam and goals decide the recommendation.

Can I change my implant size during a revision?

Larger or smaller implants can be discussed. Dropping size substantially may leave skin that does not tighten on its own, so a lift or explant without replacement may also be considered. Anatomy and preference both guide implant choice.

Can I switch from saline to silicone?

A saline-to-silicone change may be available. Talk about coverage thickness, feel, rippling, labeling, and silicone imaging follow-up. Changing the fill type does not remove implant risks or guarantee a particular appearance.

What is capsular contracture, and how is it corrected?

Scar tissue around the implant has tightened. Patients may notice firmness, discomfort, or shape change. Treatment can include releasing or removing the capsule, with exchange or explant as appropriate. Recurrence is possible.

Can a revision fix implants that have dropped or shifted?

Pocket repair or a change in implant plane can improve bottoming out, lateral shift, or symmastia. Internal sutures or added support may be part of the plan. Further movement can still occur afterward.

Can a revision fix rippling?

Improvement depends on tissue cover and implant position. Options include a different implant or plane, fat grafting, and — in selected cases — support material. Mesh for breast implants has not been cleared or approved by the FDA; discuss risks if it is proposed.

Will my capsule be sent to pathology?

Pathology and focused BIA-ALCL testing are ordered case by case. Ask which specimens would be reviewed and which tests fit your history. Ordinary capsule examination is not the same as the specific fluid or tissue workup used for suspected BIA-ALCL.

Can you revise implants another surgeon placed?

Yes. Bring implant records, prior operative reports, and imaging when available. Dr. Sayed combines that history with your exam before recommending revision or another path.

How long is recovery after a breast revision?

Desk work after about a week is common; longer recoveries happen. Exercise needs personal clearance, and settling can continue for six to twelve months. Follow-ups remain at the Newport Beach office where you consulted.

What if I would rather remove my implants than revise them?

Explant without replacement is available, alone or with a lift or fat grafting. Discuss expected contour changes and risks. See breast implant removal in Newport Beach and breast implant illness evaluation in Newport Beach; BII symptom improvement cannot be guaranteed.

Why choose Dr. Sayed for breast revision?

Review the credentials above, then ask about similar revisions, alternatives to surgery, and complication management. Leave the consult with a clear sense of what another operation can and cannot accomplish.

Where is the Newport Beach consultation office, and what are its hours?

The office is at 3991 MacArthur Boulevard, Suite 320, Newport Beach, CA 92660. Hours are Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM, Pacific Time; it is closed Saturday and Sunday. Call the shared practice number, (858) 247-2933, and specify Newport Beach when scheduling.

How should I choose between the Newport Beach and La Jolla offices?

Base the choice on where you can return for follow-up, because those visits stay at the consultation office. Newport Beach uses MacArthur Boulevard; La Jolla uses University City in San Diego. Surgery is performed only in accredited operating rooms separate from both offices. Factor in where you will recover before you decide.

I did a lot of research beforehand and took my time to find the right plastic surgeon for me. I had a breast lift and augmentation. I was looking for a more natural look and nothing too drastic. Dr. Sayed’s bedside manner is very reassuring. He always takes the time to thoroughly answer all my questions, while providing a great deal of knowledge about the procedure. Their professionalism was outstanding and I felt very comfortable from the first day that I walked into his office for consultation. Dr. Sayed made me feel very confident in his procedures and reassured me that I would be well taken care of. Dr. Sayed is a true artist and really cares about his work. He has a compassionate demeanor not only during consultation but every step of the way assuring me that I was in good hands. The emotional support that I received from staff members far exceeded my expectations. My breast explant surgery went according to schedule with no problems and 100% satisfaction.Jessica HollowayGoogle review · 3 years agoI had my first set of implants 15 years ago and received my second set of implants 3 years ago after having a single mastectomy due to breast cancer. When I discovered the breast implant illness group and associated website so many of my mysterious symptoms/illnesses seemed to make sense. I also discovered (not having been told by my previous surgeons) that implants are not lifetime devices and need to be replaced every 10 -15 years. I decided that I did not want to keep going under anesthesia every 10 years or so and if removing them could add quality to my life (I'm only 46) having them removed was worth it. Finding a surgeon that had the experience, confidence and care needed for my situation was not easy. Dr. Sayed was the fourth surgeon I met with in the San Diego area and the only one who met all of my needs. He and his staff are kind, caring and skilled. Even knowing that I had already had several consults, he explained the full process to me as though it were my first, which really put me at ease with his level of knowledge and skill. I am 3 months post-op and I am very happy with my decision to have my surgery with Dr. Sayed. The procedure itself went smoothly and recovery has been fairly easy. Dr. Sayed is truly a skilled surgeon and I highly recommend him.Sarah GGoogle review · 4 years agoRead all 37 Tim Sayed MD reviews on Google Review your visit on Google
