Brow Lift, La Jolla & San Diego
A brow lift raises a low or heavy brow that can make the upper face look tired or stern and can crowd the upper eyelids. At your La Jolla consultation, Tim Sayed MD evaluates your brow position, forehead, hairline, and upper lids, then discusses whether a brow lift, eyelid surgery, both, or a non-surgical option fits.
The La Jolla consultation office is in University City, at 4510 Executive Drive, Suite 210, San Diego, CA 92121. Consultations and follow-ups take place here. Surgery is performed only in accredited operating rooms separate from both consultation offices, not at the University City office.
A good brow lift does not look surprised or raise the brow too high. It simply undoes the heaviness that makes you look tired or angry when you are not.
What it treats
A heavy or low brow, deep horizontal forehead lines, frown lines between the brows, and hooded, tired-looking upper eyes.
Who it is for
Adults whose brow has dropped, often making them look tired or stern, with realistic goals. Frequently combined with upper eyelid surgery.
Technique
Most often an endoscopic brow lift through small incisions in the hairline; sometimes a temporal or hairline lift, chosen to fit your forehead and hairline.
Anesthesia and time
General anesthesia or deep sedation, about 1 to 2 hours, longer if combined with eyelid surgery or a facelift.
Downtime
About one week before being social, with swelling and bruising settling over 2 to 3 weeks.
How long it lasts
A brow lift does not stop aging, but most patients enjoy the result for many years, often a decade or more.
Why a brow lift

Techniques
An endoscopic brow lift uses small incisions within the hairline and a camera to guide the lift. Other approaches, such as a temporal lift or an incision at the hairline, may be considered depending on your forehead height and hairline. The choice affects scar location and whether the hairline moves.
A brow lift is usually performed under general anesthesia or deep sedation as an outpatient procedure. Plan for an adult to drive you home from the operating facility.
Most patients do well with an endoscopic brow lift, often combined with upper eyelid surgery. Dr. Sayed examines your brow height, forehead, and hairline and recommends the approach that fits, nothing more than you need.
Consultation
Bring a list of medications and supplements, any prior forehead, eyelid, or hairline procedures, and the dates of any recent neuromodulator (such as Botox) injections. Older photos can help show how your brow position has changed.
Ask which technique is proposed, where the incisions would be, whether the hairline would change, and whether upper eyelid surgery is also recommended.
Related options include eyelid surgery in La Jolla and facial plastic surgery in La Jolla.
The procedure
A brow lift may raise a low or heavy brow, soften the hooded appearance it can create over the upper lids, and improve forehead or frown lines. A good result should look rested rather than surprised.
A brow lift does not remove excess upper-eyelid skin by itself; when both concerns are present, upper eyelid surgery may be discussed as well. Neuromodulators can temporarily soften lines and slightly shape the brow but do not lift a significantly descended brow.
Risks include bleeding, infection, anesthesia complications, numbness or itching of the scalp, hair loss near incisions, visible scarring, asymmetry, a change in hairline, over- or under-correction, nerve injury affecting forehead movement, and the need for further surgery.
Seek prompt care for rapidly increasing swelling, fever, or severe or worsening pain.

Cost
The practice’s current guide for a brow lift is about $6,000–$12,000, depending on the technique and whether it is combined with eyelid surgery or a facelift. The same guide applies at both consultation offices; it is not a La Jolla-specific market price.
Request a written quote for your proposed plan. Ask exactly which fees it includes, such as the surgeon, anesthesia, and facility, and what could add to the cost. Insurance rarely covers cosmetic surgery; check with your insurer if a functional concern is involved.
Recovery
Swelling and bruising of the forehead and around the eyes are common and usually improve over the first couple of weeks. Many patients feel ready to be seen socially after about one to two weeks; timing varies. Numbness or itching of the scalp can last longer.
Sleep with your head elevated, avoid strenuous activity until cleared, and ask about washing your hair, coloring it, and returning to exercise.

Questions
An endoscopic brow lift uses small incisions within the hairline and a small camera to guide the lift. It is one of several techniques; the choice depends on your forehead and hairline.
A low brow can make the upper lids look heavy. If the brow is the main cause, a brow lift may help more than removing lid skin. Some patients need both. The examination decides.
The practice’s current guide is about $6,000–$12,000, depending on the technique and whether eyelid surgery or a facelift is added. The same guide applies at both offices; request a written quote for your plan.
The goal is a rested brow position, not an over-raised one. Ask how the height and shape will be planned and review photographs. Results vary.
Scar location depends on the technique: small incisions within the hairline for an endoscopic lift, or incisions at the temple or hairline for other approaches.
They do different things. Neuromodulators temporarily soften lines and can slightly shape the brow. A surgical lift repositions a descended brow and lasts longer. Ask which fits your concern.
Results can be long-lasting, but aging continues. Durability varies with technique, anatomy, and skin quality.
Many patients feel ready to be seen socially after about one to two weeks. Swelling and bruising improve gradually, and scalp numbness can last longer.
Numbness or itching of the scalp is common after a brow lift and usually improves over time. Persistent changes are possible.
Tightness, headache, and soreness are common early and are usually managed with prescribed or recommended medication. Report severe or worsening pain.
It is often discussed with upper eyelid surgery and sometimes with a facelift or fat transfer. Combining changes recovery and cost.
Yes. The plan considers a lower, flatter male brow shape and hairline pattern.
Some techniques can move the hairline. If your forehead is already high, ask about approaches that avoid raising it.
Risks include bleeding, infection, numbness, hair loss near incisions, asymmetry, a change in hairline, nerve injury, and the need for further surgery.
